The New Surry Theatre’s newly formed Performing Arts School is an opportunity for people of all ages to study not just Acting––but many more of the skills that are needed to be a great actor, or just unleash their creative juices and have more fun in life.

Since the 1970s, the New Surry Theatre has made acting lessons the foundation of its success. Many of the actors in NST productions have studied acting with Bill Raiten prior to being on stage. Over the years, actors like Herb Mitchell, Cindy Robbins, Charlie Alexander and many others have used their training to make audiences clamber for more.

Performing Arts School students will have the joy of singing and dancing Broadway songs, learning stage combat, acting in scenes, designing character makeup and learning how to audition for commercials. They’ll be able to use these skills in community theatre, in auditions for Broadway or just singing (on key) in the shower and entertaining the family around the kitchen table.

Each ten-week session is $30 a week for one class, and if you'd like to take a second class, it's only $10 a week extra. A semester includes nine weeks of studying, followed by a production week ending with a final performance for the community. Call NST Artistic Director Bill Raiten at (207) 374-5057 for more information.
